On November 3, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the delegation led by the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Abdelbari Al-Zibari.

Welcoming the delegation, the RA NA President expressed hope that the Iraqi parliamentarians’ visit would promote the further strengthening of the Armenian-Iraqi developing relations especially the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Ara Babloyan highlighted the development of the relations with the Arab world and in that context the rapprochement of cooperation with Iraq in all spheres.

Touching upon the Iraqi Armenian community, Ara Babloyan highly assessed the Iraqi people’s brotherly attitude towards the Armenian immigrants, who had found asylum in Iraq at the beginning of the twentieth century and their generations.

Evaluating the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the development of the two countries’ relations, the RA NA President underlined the importance of the effective activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups.

Recording the fact of Iraq being the closest country to Armenia in geographical aspect, Ara Babloyan has noted that the Armenian businessmen’s interest is great and expressed conviction that the potential is great not only in the Armenian-Iraqi trade-economic relations, but also in educational and other spheres. The RA NA President has stated that they are ready to support the Iraqi students for getting education in Armenia, as well as sending Armenian doctors to Iraq for showing medical aid.

The RA NA President expressed willingness to support any initiative directed to the Armenian-Iraqi cooperation and wished the Iraqi people peace and welfare.

Thanking for the reception, Abdelbari Al-Zibari has noted that they are proud of the recorded successes in the relations with Armenia.

In Al-Zibari’s word, they highly assess the activities of the Armenian community and they think that the Iraqi Armenian community should be presented also in parliament. Referring to the situation in Iraq, the Head of the delegation has noted that the civilians of the country greatly suffer from the conflicts.
